He is Managing Partner of Long Hung Law Firm and a key member of our Emergency Response team. He is now one of the few leading shipping lawyers in Vietnam specializing in both ‘wet’ and ‘dry’ work and acts for many shipowners, charterers, leading P&I Clubs, H&M underwriters, marine insurers, ports and terminal operators on a range of shipping matters including collisions, salvage, wreck removal, piracy, total losses, fires and groundings through to charterparty disputes and claims arising under bills of lading and shipbuilding/ship-repair, particularly those arising in Vietnam and relating to arrest and release of the foreign ships.
He is very involved in the marine and non-marine insurance industries in Vietnam. He assists insurers with their P&I, H&M, cargo, property and fire claims and issues involving facultative and treaty reinsurance.
He also specializes in commercial litigation, arbitration and mediation with a broad based practice including international trade, banking, shipping, insurance, company law, insolvency. He has an extensive knowledge and experience of the commercial arbitration in Vietnam International Arbitration Center of VCCI (“VIAC”).

+ Acted for the Owners and P&I Club for M.T “Sunrise 689”- Hijacking attack in Singapore (Casualty investigation, Cargo claim);
+ Acted for the Owners and P&I Club for M.V “Phu Tan”- Sinking incident, 24 dead and missing crews, 315 sunken containers (Casualty investigation, salvage, oil pollution prevention, hull claims, crew death and injury claims, cargo claims etc..)
+ Advised and assisted the leading local insurer and other re-insurers on M.V “Vinalines Queen”- Sinking incident alleged arising from liquefaction of nickel ore cargo onboard, worth approximately US$35 million;
+ Acted for Hull Underwriters for M.V “Centaus”- Grounding incident in Quang Ninh Province, Vietnam (Casualty investigation, salvage);
+ Acted for P&I Club for M.V “Saigon Queen”- Sinking incident in Sri Lanka (Casualty investigation, hull and cargo claims);
+ Acted for the Owners for M.V “Vinalines Pioneer” in conjunction with the Singapore law firm in the Singapore courts to defend the claims for wrongful arrest and jurisdiction;
+ Acted for the Owners in conjunction with the leading English law firm in Hongkong to defend their claim in the collision between M.V “ELENI” and M.V “Hueng A Dragon” in Vietnam and Hong Kong Court;
+ Acted for the Owners and P&I Club in multi-collision between the ship and the jetty, the shore crane, the tug, the barge in Dong Nai Province, worth approximately US$10 million (Casualty investigation, collision claims, cargo claims, death and injury claims, liability limitation etc..)
+ Acted for the Owners, P&I Clubs, Hull Underwriters in many collision incidents occurred in Vietnam between M.V “Krairatch Dignity” and M.V “Truonghai Star”, M.V “Tai Ping” and M.V “Rio Lawrence”; M.V “Petrolimex 02” and M.V “Leguin”; M.V “Pacific Grace” and M.V “Bohai Star”, M.V “Inchogas” and the local barge…
+ Represented the shipowners in arbitration proceeding in relation with the dispute on the ship sale and purchase agreement, MOA, worth approximately US$18 million;
+ Advised and assisted shipowner in relation to the purchase and delivery of many vessels, worth approximately US$25 million;
+ Acted for a bank/the owners in a claim against the shipyard with regard to the repair liability, worth approximately US$5 million;
+ Advised the cargo underwriters on the insurance liability under the cargo policy and the cargo recovery against the Owner of M.V “New Hangzhou” in the sinking incident in the waters of China, worth approximately US$ 4.5 million;
+ Acted for Cargo Underwriters in reducing their liability for damage cargo claim from US$8million to US$2 million;
+ Represented the shipowner/ P&I Clubs to settle various cargo claims, release many foreign vessels arrested by local claimants, arrange Letters of Undertaking, Bank Guarantee as securities to release the vessel, arrest the vessel in Vietnamese port to secure the claims and enforce the maritime claims under the foreign arbitral awards and judgment.
